Is Sushi Healthy?

30 09 2010

Run: 2 km

Monthly Total: 49 km

Bonus Activity: Ultimate Frisbee

I have been such a Sushi Monster this week. Wednesday night, the River City Sports crew got together to dine on all-you-can-eat sushi at Mooshiro Japanese Cuisine. It was glorious and we ate like there was no tomorrow. I had strategically ate light all day, so felt not too, too badly about myself. 😉

Today, my co-workers decided to have a sushi date. Since my time is running out at my current business unit, I jumped at the opportunity for a groovy, sit-down lunch with my girls. I know. Twist my rubber arm for a second sushi date! We dined at Sushi Cushi. It’s quick and fun. Additionally, I ate a much more civilized portion. Go me!

Now, is sushi healthy? When you break it down:

fish (omegas) + veggies (complex carbs) = very delicious and nutritious

white rice (simple carbs) + soya sauce (sodium) + mayo (fats) = very delicious, but not so nutritious.

Conclusion? Sushi is pretty healthy, but best in moderation – like all good things in life. The whole sushi situation can be optimized with substituting in brown rice, skipping the mayo, using low sodium soya sauce, and going for the straight-up fish sans roll.

I still think worse things can be consumed. Sushi supports my pescetarian life style!

Swampy Goodness

Run: 2 km

Monthly Total: 47 km

Bonus Activity: Ultimate Frisbee

Quick entry:

Today was a typical work day, filled with training, engine drama, and extra credit assignments. (My boss asked that I take her place in a sales course next week. It looks pretty cool, actually… I’m a nerd.)

Tonight is Ultimate Frisbee night and it was sweet to run about. For once it was sunny, but still windy. With all the rainfall lately, it was an incredibly mucky field. There were a lot of wet bums – not as sexy as you might imagine.

Now, I’m back home with a clean, dry bottom. Jere and I had a light dinner and shared a pot of tea. Very chill. Very relaxed.

I still have a park run on the brain. It’s going to happen!

Motivational Factor

27 09 2010

Walk: 3 km

Monthly Total: 47 km

I’ll admit my focus has been on work as of late – train all day and zonk out all night. I haven’t even started my NEW job yet! Oi! As a result, my exercise and nutrition levels have been subpar.

However, there is a change in the wind my friends. I am starting to feel some relief from my old job responsibilities, with my trainee beginning to take the brunt of it. Additionally, the weather is proving to be gorgeous, which is lifting the ol’ spirits. As Seinfeld is playing in the background, let’s insert an enthusiastic, “I’m back, baby!” a la George Costanza.

This morning I woke up in a sleepy, yet in a good mood. I built a lovely breakfast for two, consisting of fresh fruit, light yogurt, and a sprinkling of cereal. That along with a fresh ground cup of coffee and I was good to go! Lunch was a lovely salad, with an apple for desert. A co-worker fed me some Nibs, but trust me – this is plenty tame compared to what I’ve consumed lately.

After work, I planned on visiting our local running shoe store: City Park Runners. I have been concerned about running with my not-so-supportive sneaks all summer. I figured it was high time I treated myself of a new pair of runners. The service was brilliant and professional. I am now the proud new owner of a Saucony, Progrid Ride 3. Check it!

Yummy! I tried them out tonight during a quick 3 kilometer walk to return some movies. Comfy as all heck!

If a day like this doesn’t get me out of my funk, I don’t know what will!

Killarney Fall Times

26 09 2010

Walk: 6 km

Monthly Total: 44 km

Bonus Activity: Mowed some sweet lake-front lawn

This week-end we travelled to Killarney town. Our mission, which we chose to accept, was to pick-up and register the Ford Ranger. It’s lovely that we’re a two vehicle family again.

It was a gorgeous week-end, which is good news for the farming community. Lisa was home to help on the farm and Amy arrived late Saturday. Mom and her packed up the Civic to drive 14 hours west to Alberta. Amy has lined up some interviews for the next couple of weeks, and Mom was tagging along as support and relief driver. Little inspiration, Amy is!

Jeremy and I did a lot of visiting, including a nice chat on the deck with Grandma Freeman. We did took long, fall walks around the lake, both in the evening and daylight. Such gorgeous weather! On Sunday we mowed the lawn, which helped burn some calories. We then did a convoy with the Alero and Ranger back to the city. We picked up some groceries and had homemade pizza for dinner. Delish dish.

This week is supposed to be warm and dry, so I have big plans to do some Assinboine Park running. I figure if I mention it here, I’ll be sure to execute.

Sweet September

Walk: 17 km – Run: 8 km – Bike: 4 km – Hike: 9 km

Monthly Total: 38 km

Bonus Activity: Yoga, Ultimate Frisbee

I feel like I’m stepping into a confessional – and I’m not even Catholic.

Bless me Internet, for I have sinned. It has been 23 days since my last blog post.

I am being cheeky, but I have honestly missed updating my 8 Thousand baby. I have been tracking my kilometers behind the scenes and what lovely kilometers they have been! There have been walks through the park, fall ultimate frisbee games, hiking in the Whiteshell, and a tiny bit of biking.

Work has been exhausting, in a word. I officially start my new job after Thanksgiving, which is very exciting. However, there was a cold swimming around the office, which eventually caught me. I’ve been stressed trying to keep my account moving, while getting a coworker trained up to take it over. Then, I found out Friday I need to train a second person to take over a secondary account I previously owned. But, enough of the boo-hoos. Career and life has been sincerely exciting and fun! Not only that, but…

Jere and I celebrated our 1st Anniversary! We have been together for 10 years and have been happily married for one  year. How cool is that?! We celebrated with a long week-end at Otter Falls Resort. We had a view of a lake, a sauna, jacuzzi tub, fire place, Satellite TV, and a full kitchen to play with. It was all very dreamy.

This week-end, Jere and I are jetting out to Killarney to pick-up the Ranger. Big thanks to Scotty too Hotty – we’ll be a two vehicle family again! This is not to say that we don’t have fall biking planned.  I also have to figure out what I’m going to do for physical activity now that the weather is crapping out.

I hope everyone is well! Pictures to follow soon.
