Winter Morning at the Airport

6 01 2011

I felt the need to snap a pic from my work parking lot this morning. The stars are still in the sky, but it’s misty and
difficult to see them.

It’s kinda cool that I (practically) go to the airport everyday – even if not to travel. Such a fascinating place, even in the dead of winter.

The Man Is Snoring

4 05 2010

Bike: 12 km – Run: 4 km – Walk: 1 km

Monthly Total: 31 km

The man is snoring and it’s not Jere. I am referring to the man who “is snoring” while it’s “raining and pouring”. I checked the weather this morning to discover we were in for a rainy one – but not until noon. I negotiated a pick-up from Jeremy (if required) and hit my bike at 6:45 am this morning.

I really like my bike commute – especially when it’s cool and calm. It helps me get off on the right food, you know? It seems to warrant quite a response from my co-workers, however: “You biked today?” “Really?” “Did you check the forecast?” “You biked today?” Which is followed by light chit chat regarding biking in general. I like to talk about non-work topics and since my brain isn’t at full capacity in the morning, I’m all for it.

The rain did not start to fall at noon, but it start to fall at 4 pm – home time. I decided to go for it. It was fantastic and I definitely accomplished a personal best! Plus, no damage to my valuables (like my Iphone).

I followed up the bike commute with a 4 km run through the park. We were in the midst of a downpour, realizing that we were not the only crazies runners in the rain – there were lots of people out! Is this what people do? Run in the rain, rather then take shelter? Where have we been?

There goes my theory that I’m made of sugar. I must be naturally sweet!

First Day of Boot Camp

3 05 2010

Bike: 4 km – Run: 2 km

Monthly Total: 14 km

Extra Activity: Boot Camp and 30 minute Yoga Session

It was the first morning for boot camp and I hate to say, but I had been dreading it. The forecast was for snow and it’s at 5:30 in the morning for gawd’s sake!

But, as I’m a born again trooper, I sucked it up like a good little princess and set my alarm for 4:55. I don’t know if it was the excitement or the usual Sunday night tension, but I barely slept. However, I awoke to NO precipitation and was sure the kilometer gawds were smiling upon me.

I rode my bike to the park, which I fully intend to do for each and every session. It adds 4 km to my day, plus it would take just as long to drive. My little sister did a workout assessment, which included what I calculated to be a 2 km run. I am very happy to report that I did quite well! There are seven of us in total. One girl ran ahead, sporting her Biathlon jacket (hmmmm…. next challenge?) and I jogged after her. I suddenly realized I was all alone and pulled a head of the pack. (If pack equates to 5 people?) Two girls even dropped out, but I finished in a decent 12 minutes and 44 seconds. Not bad for a girl who was unable to run for a consecutive 5 minutes, a mere 6 weeks ago!

I was sleepy today, but decided to do a core yoga DVD after work. I was kinda hoping Rodney would lead me through some stretching, but we worked on the core and breathing instead. (Obviously not too familiar with that particular workout. Soon, soon.)

The weather is supposed to be rainy again tomorrow. I am addicted biking to work, so I I’m hoping for a dry spell in the morning. We’ll see!

Cottage Weekend

2 05 2010

Walk: 4 km – Bike: 4 km
Monthly Total: 8 km

Fabulous weekend with outdoors loving friends. There were a lot of laughs and some great hiking and biking fun.

We hiked around the damn and took in the lovely Whiteshell scenery. Very fresh air and beautiful greens. The guys biked, while we girls hiked. Chris and Christa teased each other, Josh was inquisitive and pointed out different birds (birding is huge for that guy), Heather narrated the local sites, Jeremy was cute on his bike, and Peter bit it first over a dirt ridge. We referred to it as, “making out with nature”. Peter didn’t think we were funny.

Christa and Josh took off after lunch, and the rest of us bikes the south dike. We now want to make shirts that say “Bike the Dike”. The wind really picked up and the rain clouds were moving in quickly. Thus, we decided to deviate from the dike and head for the highway. The road we chose turned into a muddy gumbo. We ended up carrying our bikes out of the mess, just as we got hit with a down pour. It was a brilliant spring ride, for sure. Love it!

All and all, we didn’t pack in the kilometer, but had some great adventures.

Now, time to get psyched up for some boot camp… And snow is in the forecast. I will not be broken in gently on the activity, unfortunately.

New Hardcore

30 04 2010

Run: 4 km – Walk: 1 km
Monthly Total: 58.5

Jeremy and I are driving out to a friend’s cottage for a little outdoor adventure in the rain, a little hot tub action, and a little bit of wine consumption. Really looking forward to it!

I wanted to post and try out my new WordPress ap. I lost all my gold words once by not properly saving. I think I learned my lesson, so here we go with a more “brief” Round 2.

To summerize, mother nature’s rain has been cleaning up old man winter’s remains. (See? Pure gold.) Thus, no biking to work today. I fully intend to ride in the summer rain, but spring mud in my gears is none too appealing.

Since we were going to be away this weekend, I proactively set my alarm for 5 am. I am motivated mostly by fear to not miss a run session. We awoke to 10′c and overcast – perfect jogging conditions. So we hit the park and put in a 4 km.

Very proud. Very happy. Fully intend to do it again, as required.
